“Hard Board” Ice Dividers Maximize Ice Time & Versatility

Friday, September 28th, 2012

SRG is proud to introduce our new “hard board” divider series! We chose ProWall, our molded plastic dasherboard system, as our hard board dividers because it is LIGHT, PORTABLE, and EASY TO HANDLE. With this divider system, youth hockey organizations can create two playing areas AND a “neutral zone” for instruction, rest, substitution and more.

Advantages:

  • By creating two separate play areas, the “neutral zone” between the two can be used for rest, substitution and instruction. If five teams are using the rink, four can play in the cross-ice area while the fifth team receives instruction from coaches, etc
  • By receiving two sets of these ProWall boards, the youth hockey association/rink is receiving 220 linear feet of boards. These boards can also be used for dry-land training, parking lot games, shortening two rinks, etc. In other words, a lot of versatility.
  • With ProWall, you can also create special stick-handling areas, goalie practice areas, and 3-on-3 practices, games and tournament while still maximizing other areas of the ice.
  • ProWall panels are 88 lbs. each (for an 8 ft. straight panel or 8 ft. radius panel) which is about half of the weight of a traditional aluminum/poly divider panel. This means faster set-up and tear-down time as well as more people who are eligible to help.
  • ProWall panels have a 1.5″ deep channel in the top of the boards that can accomodate acrylic or netting for additional upper containment in the future or if dividers are installed for a long period of time.

“The ProWall Product makes our Pond Hockey program a breeze. The “No Tool” connection and lightweight material makes it possible to install and remove the dashers easily on a daily basis.”

SRG Spotlight: Loveland Box Lacrosse

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Have you heard of the up and coming variation of lacrosse? Box lacrosse is now a growing alternative to the more traditional field lacrosse. The name, “Box” Lacrosse, came about because of the enclosed area that the game is played in. It was invented in Canada in the 1930′s, as a way for local ice arenas to promote business. The game was played on artificial turf placed over the ice surface. Although it didn’t originate here, the game is quickly spreading to the United States.

There are several differences between “box” and “field” lacrosse.  Box Lacrosse is played with less players (teams of six instead of ten), on a smaller field,  and with slightly smaller goals and sticks. It is also a slightly more violent game due to the fact that checking is allowed. Box Lacrosse, sometimes even called Indoor Lacrosse, is more commonly played indoors.  The Loveland Box Lacrosse League, however, decided to build an outdoor box arena this spring using the ProWall Dasherboard System.

Michael Cotsonas also said, ”SRG was outstanding to work with, and easily helped meet our needs even though our outdoor box lacrosse arena was a little out of the ordinary. It was a long term project and Chris and the team were by our sides the whole way.  Our prowall system for lacrosse is the first one of it’s kind in the Midwest, and we’ve already been noted in a number of national lacrosse magazine.  Thanks, SRG for helping us get put on the map!”On June 23, The Loveland Lacrosse Club took a big leap for the sport of box lacrosse when they opened the first box lacrosse arena in the midwest. Local youth players swarmed to the arena to be one of the first to play in the “box”. The Loveland Lacrosse Club now offers outdoor summer lacrosse, as well as the more common indoor winter box lacrosse. The Club Director, Michael Cotsonas says, “The league features 200-250 local youth through high school players. This is the largest summer lacrosse league (box or field) in Southern Ohio.”

We were very happy to help Michael Cotsonas and the Loveland Lacrosse Club build this new box arena, and we hope our ProWall Dasherboards can help with the spread of box lacrosse in the future!

To learn more about the Loveland Lacrosse League and the game of Box Lacrosse, watch these videos!  You can watch Michael Cotsonas talk about the opening day and how the field came to be, Loveland Lacrosse League President Jeannie Clements talk about the difference between box and field lacrosse, and Jacob Cotsonas talk about the first goal scored at the new arena.

Temporary Ice Skating Rinks!

Monday, August 20th, 2012

Everyone loves to go ice-skating during the holidays and winter season! But what do you do with the ice rink during the hot summer months?

Several cities around the United States have found a solution to this problem: temporary rinks!  By using a synthetic ice surface and SRG’s portable ProWall dasherboard system, it is now possible to set up an ice skating winter wonderland that can be quickly and easily disassembled for the summer months. This allows cities to use a certain venue for different purposes during the summer and winter seasons!

The City of New London, located in southeastern Connecticut, did just that this past winter. Using our ProWall Dasherboard System and a synthetic ice surface, the city created a seasonal ice rink on the Parade Plaza in New London’s historic waterfront district. The Rink at Parade Plaza is open to the public every day of the week during the winter season, and also hosts sponsored-open skate events. They rent out out skates right on site as well.

Check out the following timelapse videos to see how quickly the rink can be set up and taken down!

NHL Draft 2012

Monday, August 13th, 2012

Sport Resource Group was happy to provide ProWall Dasher Boards to set up several outdoor rinks for the 2012 NHL Draft in Pittsburgh, PA. The first rink was set up right on the Roberto Clemente Bridge itself. Pittsburgh has almost 500 bridges, and the Roberto Clemente Bridge is one of its most famous. Traffic on the bridge was blocked off for the day so that some of the top-ranked NHL 2012 Draft prospects could play in a dek hockey game with local kids from the Pittsburgh ICE inner-city program. Crowds of people came to check out the the unique rink and watch the game on the bridge!

The second rink was set up at the plaza outside the American Eagle Gate, near the corner of Fifth Avenue and Washington Place. The synthetic ice rink was open to the public on both Friday and Saturday.

Skating was free, and 200 pairs of rental skates were available to rent for free! The Pittsburgh youth hockey players played a game on the synthetic rink on Friday night, leading up to the draft.

Sport Resource Group was very excited to set up both of these unique rinks and honored to take part in the 2012 NHL Draft!

Inline Hockey In Ireland Is A Hit

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Thank you to Jason Tessier of Inline Hockey Ireland in Cork, Ireland, for his recent photos and comments upon purchasing and installing Sport Resource Group’s portable ProWall Rink System.

“We are able to set up the Pro Wall barriers in 5 minutes or less at the start of each session. Everyone pitches in so the boards go up quick and easy.   The boards provide us with a safe, robust and durable barrier system that we can put up and take down for each session. The flat boards stack nicely and we store the corner pieces with our nets.  Best of all, we can expand on our investment to move to a bigger Pro Wall system in the future,” said Jason.

See photos and let us know if YOU have a custom installation for our products or our team.
